Last Friday, Apple Computer and Steve Jobs won two of the four Billboard Digital Entertainment Awards for which they had been nominated. Apple won Brand of the Year while Jobs secured Visionary of the Year for his dual roles as CEO of Apple and Pixar. Apple was up for Innovator of the Year for iTunes but lost to XM Radio’s satellite radio service while the iTunes Music Store failed to impress the judges more than Real Networks’ Rhapsody did in the Best Downloadable or Subscription Music Service category.
On the gaming front, publisher Aspyr Media will publish the Mac version of True Crime: Streets of L.A., which won Best Use of Sound. BioWare Corp. — developer of Neverwinter Nights and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, which came to the Mac courtesy of MacSoft and Aspyr — secured Game Developer of the Year.
