Wolfram Research on Tuesday announced the introduction of GridMathematica 2, the latest version of its high-end application development software designed for use on supercomputers. On display this week during SuperComputing 2004 in Pittsburgh, GridMathematica 2 has been optimized for use on systems ranging from the top 500 supercomputers in the world, including Virginia Tech’s “SuperMac” cluster, to heterogeneous grids to personal workstations.
GridMathematica uses Wolfram’s scientific and technical application Mathematica as a base, adding the ability to process complex non-numeric data, 2D and 3D graphics, geospatial information and more in parallel. Version 2 offers such enhancements as automatic parallelization of wider computation classes, programmable scheduling for problem-specific tuning, optimization for 64-bit architectures, Web services support, universal database connectivity and more.
