Freeverse Software has announced the release of
Big Bang Board Games, a collection of classic board games updated for the Mac. Big Bang Board Games combines the previously released Big Bang Chess with Backgammon, Checkers, Reversi, Tic-Tac-Toe, Mancala and 4-In-A-Row. All the Big Bang games integrate with Apple’s iLife software — you can play and manage iTunes music in the games, use Mail and Address Book to play games by e-mail, invite iChat buddies to play online with you, share pictures using your iSight webcam, and use Freeverse’s own GameSmith matching service to find other opponents as well.
If you’re already familiar with Big Bang Chess, which won two Apple Design Awards at the Worldwide Developers Conference earlier this year, the game has undergone some changes since then. A proxy server has been added, as has GNU Chess A.I., for master level play. The iSight integration has been extended to this game, along with GameSmith support, and a plug-in architecture has also been incorporated to manage opponents and boards.
The US$24.95 collection is available for purchase from Freeverse — where demos of the individual games are also available for download — and you’ll be able to buy it at Apple retail stores and other locations very soon. System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.3 and 250MB hard disk space. An Internet connection is required for online play.
