Wolfram Research on Wednesday released Mathematica 5.1, an update to its scientific and mathematics development environment that offers more than 50 new functions, toolkits and performance improvements. Among the changes are more algorithms added to Mathematica’s automatic algorithm selection, in addition to better intelligence; built-in universal database connectivity,; more import and export formats, including XLS spreadsheets and AVI video files; integrated Web Services support, including SOAP and WSDL; automated network visualization in 2D and 3D; and more.
