Wallflower Systems Inc. on Friday announced the release of the Wallflower 2 Network Digital Picture Frame. Available in either 12.1-inch or 14.1-inch sizes, the 1024 x 768 pixel-resolution LCD screen looks like a picture, but can show digital still images, play videos and audio files.
The Wallflower 2 features a Web-based interface for configuration, and supports network-based file sharing with both Mac and Windows computers. It also supports Secure Copy Protocol (SCP) and File Transfer Protocol (FTP). The device sports built-in USB, 10/100baseT Ethernet and Wi-Fi wireless networking capabilities. Files are stored on an internal 40GB hard disk drive. An internal speaker plays back audio, and line level outputs connect the Wallflower 2’s to a stereo.
Digital image formats supported by the Wallflower 2 include JPEG, GIF, BMP, TGA, TIFF and PNG. What’s more, the Wallflower 2 can play back MP3 and WAV audio. MPEG 1, MPEG 2, DivX and QuickTime video formats are also supported. A separate software upgrade aimed at business users can also enable the Wallflower 2 to display Macromedia Flash and Microsoft PowerPoint presentations. The Wallflower 2 can also display content retrieved from e-mails and Web pages, and can display news and sports scores as a scrolling news ticker at the bottom of the screen.
The Wallflower 2 costs US$649 to $999, depending on frame style, size and finish.
