Stockholm, Sweden-based Propellerhead Software has announced Reason 3.0, a new version of its music workstation software for pro musicians and DJs that comes complete with synthesizers, sequencer, samplers, drum machine and other capabilities. New to this version is “The Combinator,” which lets you build chains of Reason units like instruments, effects and pattern sequencers, saving them as Combi patches.
Also new is the MClass Mastering suite, which combines four mastering units that help you add extra stereo width, improve clarity and punch up the bass in your music. New Remote technology will aid live musicians who want to play with reason using external hardware, and a new browser makes it easier to find patches and sounds. Reason 3.0’s soundbank has been increased. Also new is Line Mixer 6:2 — a six-channel stereo line mixer. There’s more, too.
Reason 3.0 is currently in beta, and Propellerhead hasn’t set a release date. The company plans to offer an upgrade for Reason 1 and 2 users for US$129 (€99). System requirements will call for a G3 or faster “sufficiently fast to run Mac OS X v10.2,” 256MB RAM, 2GB hard disk space and CD-ROM drive.
