Reader Joe Kewekordes is having problems with Entourage. Specifically, his email client insists on capitalizing the first word after each period. I’ll let him explain:
Entourage always wants to AutoCorrect the first letter of a sentence to a capital letter, but this sucks after an abbreviation, like “add 50 ml. Of solution.” One could always turn this off in Word, but I can’t find it in Entourage 2004!? Any help?
Many people miss this option because they look in Entourage’s preferences instead of its Tools menu. In this menu you’ll find the key to your salvation — the AutoCorrect command. Select it and in the resulting window you’ll see the Capitalize First letter of Sentences option. Disable this option and Entourage will no longer do the bad thing after an abbreviation.
For those who find such a solution a little extreme, feel free to leave this option enabled but click the Exceptions button and add any abbreviations you like in the Don’t Capitalize After field.
