iPod owners in the United Kingdom who have been anxious to purchase the charity single, “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” from the iTunes Music Store will now be able to do so. Previously Apple refused to carry the tune because it didn’t want to offer any song priced over 79 pence. The song’s sponsors, Band Aid, asked that Apple increase its price from the store’s standard 79 pence-per-song and donate the excess to the charity.
In a generous display of holiday spirit, Apple has said that it will carry the song at the iTunes Music Store, sell it for the normal 79 pence, and donate 79 pence of its own to the charity for each copy of the song downloaded. Apple is also selling the original 1984 version of the song with all proceeds going to the charity.
Currently the song is not available from the U.S. iTunes Music Store.
