Reader Matt “Dik” Tracy allows me to finish off the week by shedding some light on a problem he finds perplexing.
I accidentally deleted my “Network” shortcut that once resided in the sidebar of Finder windows. How can I get that icon back over there? I tried dragging and dropping and it just doesn’t work.
The upper area of the sidebar is reserved for certain items — mounted volumes (including iPods mounted as disks), the icon that represents your computer, your iDisk (if you have one), and the Network icon. If you delete a mounted volume from the sidebar you can replace it by dragging it back into the sidebar. This doesn’t work with the Network icon.
To replace this icon you can do one of two things. The first is select Computer from the Finder’s Go menu, click on the Network entry in the resulting window, and choose Add to Sidebar from the File menu. The other is select Preferences from the Finder menu, click the Sidebar tab in the window that appears, and check the box next to the Network entry.
