Aspyr Media Inc. is best known as a purveyor of games for the Macintosh, PC and Game Boy Advance, but the company on Monday announced some diversification into utility publishing as well: It’s offering CandyBar Plus, a new utility pack for Mac OS X that combines The Iconfactory’s CandyBar 2 icon changing utility and Pixadex, the icon storing and organization utility, along with more than 1,000 icons.
CandyBar 2 makes it easier to replace the icons in Mac OS X used to identify toolbar items, applications, volumes, the trashcan and more. A drag and drop interface lets you change the icons with new art, and the software stays updated when changes are made with new Mac OS X releases. You can also revert to the “standard” system icons with a single click. Pixadex, made by The Iconfactory and Mac OS X utility company Panic, is “iPhoto for icons,” providing the ability to import, organize and search icons and icon collections. You can arrange icons by attributes like name, date, author, URL and more. And a search engine lets you find what you’re looking for.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.2 or higher. The product is listed as “Coming Soon” on Aspyr’s Web site; the price will be US$29.99
