Each week, Playlist’s Glenn Peoples looks at special tracks offered by the various online music merchants. Here are the selections for the week of January 3rd.
iTunes’ Download of the Week is “Undone” by the underappreciated-but-always-great power pop artist Owsley. Two exclusives of note are a three-song Chingy “Live@AOL” EP and “Greyhound Song” by indie rock veterans Bettie Serveert.
Rhapsody’s Christmas present to its subscribers was a slew of Jimi Hendrix titles to bolster its considerable catalog: Electric Ladyland, South Saturn Delta and Axis: Bold As Love.
New on iTunes this week is an iTunes exclusive: “Sitting, Waiting, Wishing” by surfing folk artist Jack Johnson.
Napster: Current exclusives include the NDB Disco Mix of Le Tigre’s “After Dark” and a live version of “Jet Lag” by British soul diva Joss Stone.
Puretracks: In case you don’t already own it, you can get the Pixies’ Surfer Rosa in Puretracks’ standard 192kbps WMA format. Pod, the first album by Pixies offshoot The Breeders, is another recent addition.
MusicNow is offering a pack of its 50 top tracks of 2004. Leading the charge is, to no surprise, Usher’s “Yeah!”
Wal-Mart: One of Wal-Mart’s latest exclusives is a special version of “Whiskey Girl” by Toby Keith recorded live at AOL Music.
eMusic: Just added is Joe Jackson’s Afterlife, a live album taken from California dates on the reunion tour of the original Joe Jackson band.
