Gefen on Monday announced five new and updated products on display at Macworld Conference & Expo San Francisco: the CAT5-5000 HD KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) extender (US$1,299), which has been upgraded to support the Power Mac G5 as well as Apple’s new 20- and 23-inch Cinema Displays; Combo Extension Cables, which come in 10- ($99) and 15-foot ($129) lengths and extend one display plus two USB or FireWire peripherals; the 2×1 DVI-DL Switcher ($699), which hooks two computers to the same display; the DVI-2000 HD Extender ($1,399), which supports both G5s and Apple’s 30-inch Cinema HD display; and the new FireWire Repeater 800 and USB 2.0 Extender.
The CAT5-5000 HD enables you to work on a computer with dual displays from up to 150 feet away; its cables can support multiple resolutions up to 1920 x 1200 and it’s HDCP (high bandwidth digital content protection) compatible. The Combo Extension Cables includes three connectors: DVI, with support for resolutions up to 1920 x 1200, USB and FireWire. The DVI-2000 HD Extender supports resolutions up to 3840 x 2400, sending them up to 330 feet; its external power supply can be connected at either end. The FireWire Repeater 800 can transmit signals up to 33 feet, with the option to stack additional repeaters and extend the reach up to 250 feet, while the USB 2.0 Extender can send data up to 150 feet.
