Bare Bones Software on Tuesday announced that TextWrangler 2.0 is now shipping. This update to the company’s general purpose text editor features syntax coloring, a documents drawer, a navigation bar, SFTP support, the ability to apply BBEdit 8 Text Factories and more. In addition, the new Shebang menu offers several Unix shell scripting features for Perl, Python or Unix scripts and filters, including syntax checking. Scripts can be executed in TextWrangler or in a Terminal window.
TextWrangler 2.0, which requires Mac OS X v10.3.5, is free for all Mac users — owners of version 1.x will be notified via e-mail of their US$49 credit toward future purchases from Bare Bones. The company is offering commercial licensing terms to developers who want to include TextWrangler 2.0 in their products.
Bare Bones is also offering a 20 percent discount on all purchases made on its Web site. The offer, which expires Jan. 21, is also available at the company’s booth on the Macworld Conference & Expo San Francisco show floor. If you’re buying online, use the promo code “MW20perc” in the shopping cart.
