Griffin Technology Inc. on Tuesday announced the AirClick, a remote control compatible with all dock connector iPods, including the iPod mini and the iPod photo. AirClick is also available in a USB version that works with a Mac or PC. It uses RF technology instead of infrared, which enables to work from up to 60 feet away, even when the target isn’t in the line of sight or is behind a wall.
The AirClick package includes a receiver that plugs into the top of the iPod or into the computer’s USB port. The remote control includes five buttons — play/pause, next track, previous track, volume up and volume down — and can advance images on an iPod photo when it’s in photo mode. The USB version ships with presets for iTunes, Mac OS X DVD Player, radioShark, Keynote, PowerPoint, QuickTime and the video player VLC. Griffin noted that it will make more presets available in the coming months.
The remote control features a clip on the back, and the AirClick ships with straps for attaching it to other spots. A remote cradle is also included. AirClick comes in different packages for the iPod, iPod mini and computer. Pricing for each is US$39.99. Griffin is taking pre-orders now, but it doesn’t say when it will ship the product.
