US Modular on Tuesday announced that its new Monstor Drive will ship this month. Available in 2GB (US$99) and 4GB ($169) capacities, the new drive fits in the palm of your hand and features a USB 2.0 interface. It weighs approximately half an ounce and is rated to withstand impacts up to 1500G.
While US Modular’s press release indicated that the Monstor is flash-based, a company representative told MacCentral that it is a hard drive that spins at 4,200 RPM. It’s a multi-platter drive that includes liquid bearings, shock resistant plates and an auto-parking feature that senses a drop and locks the read/write heads.
9:05 P.M. EST: Removed “flash-based” and inserted comments from company representative.
