Three Rings Design Inc. first made available Yohoho! Puzzle Pirates as a public beta in 2003, and it’s met with some limited success among a small but avid group of gamers. Now the game will receive broader exposure thanks to the efforts of major game publisher Ubisoft.
Yohoho! Puzzle Pirates is an online game that combines a swashbuckling pirate high seas adventure theme with puzzle mini-games. The game runs on Mac OS X, Windows and Linux platforms. Now Ubisoft has announced plans to republish the game, rebranded simply as Puzzle Pirates, and will make it available in April for US$19.99. Ubisoft’s release will continue to work on Mac OS X, Windows and Linux.
In Ubisoft’s release of Puzzle Pirates, gamers will be able to play the game’s most popular puzzles offline in a single-player mode. When they go online, players can sail together in crews, form political alliances, own shops, operate trade network, colonize islands and more. You can form your own pirate empire, create a pirate avatar complete with custom outfits and more. The online component of the game will cost US$9.95 per month, but Ubisoft will provide buyers with a free month to get their feet wet. The game is expected to yield a “T” for Teen rating from the ESRB. Mac system requirements call for any machine capable of running Mac OS X v10.3 comfortably.
