French developer AbOrygen has released an upgrade to biOpen, its application for analyzing and visually displaying atomic structures. Version 1.5 makes improvements to the 3D visualization of protein structures and adds such new features as heteroatom display in the 3D window, the ability to calculate distances and angles between atoms, tools for nucleic and amino acid composition analysis and more. This is a free update for current users; pricing for the full software starts at €600 (US$765.60) and depends on the tools that will be added to biOpen’s core. Mac OS X v10.2 (v10.3 recommended), a 350MHz G3 processor (a G4 or G5 processor recommended), 256MB RAM (512MB recommended) and 26MB free hard drive space are required.
