Aspyr Media Inc. announced Thursday that a mini Web site is now live for their forthcoming Mac conversion of Star Wars Battlefront. Aspyr is now taking pre-orders for the game, as well. Star Wars Battlefront is expected to be released for the Mac in June 2005.
Star Wars Battlefront is an shooter-style game that puts you in the midst of the action from classic Star Wars Battles as seen in the movies. You can assume the role of 20 different soldier types from four factions, including the Rebel Alliance, Galactic Empire, Republican Clone Army and Separatist Battle Droids. Twelve different environments include the icy moon of Hoth, first seen in The Empire Strikes Back, the forest moon of Endor, home of the Ewoks, the parched desert planet of Tatooine, home of Anakin and Luke Skywalker, and much more.
In addition to infantry play, you can operate ground and air vehicles like the two-legged AT-ST, the fast and maneuverable X-Wing fighter, Speeder bikes, Republic gunships and other craft. The game is playable in both single-player and multiplayer modes.
Preliminary system requirements call for Mac OS X v10.3.6 or later; G4/1GHz or faster, 256MB RAM, 2.7GB free hard disk space, ATI Radeon 8500 or Nvidia GeForce2 or higher 3D graphics with at least 64MB VRAM and DVD drive. The game will be available for US$49.99.
