Black Cat Systems has released Sound Byte 2.4, the latest version of its software that turns a Mac into a “cart machine” for playing audio. It’s aimed at radio station DJs and others who need to quickly select and play pre-recorded audio. This upgrade enables users to display fewer carts but make them larger, program fade times for each cart and set carts to disable themselves after they’re played, which makes it easier to see which ones still need to be played.
Sound Byte is compatible with all formats supported by QuickTime, including MP3, AIFF, WAV, AU, sfil, Sd2f and uLaw. Black Cat doesn’t note if version 2.4 is a free upgrade for registered users. The full software is available in three versions: Lite (US$24), which can handle up to 75 recordings, regular ($49), which can handle up to 375 and Pro ($99), which can handle up to 3,750.
