Elemental Audio Systems on Tuesday released Finalis, a new audio plug-in for musicians and audio professionals using software that supports RTAS, VST and Apple Audio Unit (AU) formats. Finalis is a “brick wall limiter” that provides smooth peak limiting and loudness maximization. Finalis normally costs US$159, but for a limited time it’s available for $139. A demo is available for download.
Finalis’ interface lets user “audition” three distinct limiting algorithms to figure out what’s best suited for the audio they’re listing to. It features input and output peak meters with integrated RMS and peak hold readings. It also introduces the Input/Output Crest Factor Meter, which shows how the audio dynamics are being affected by the limiter settings you’ve selected. System requirements call for a G3 or higher, Mac OS X v10.2 or higher, and an AU or VST-compatible host application or Digidesign Pro Tools 6.4 or later.
