WiebeTech on Wednesday introduced two new products: a
FireWire 400/800 PCI-X Host Adapter Card
and a bus-powered
Forensic ComboDock. The former is a high-powered version of the original card that features two FireWire 800 ports and one FireWire 400 port. It supplies 45 watts of power, enabling users to mount several external bus-powered FireWire drives on their Macs. It’s priced at $189.95. The company has also added a $99.95
for its existing FireWire Cardbus adapter, allowing users to attach 3.5-inch bus-powered hard drives to the adapter.
The bus-powered Forensic ComboDock, which will ship in early March, provides the same ability as the original Forensic ComboDock to image data from any IDE or SATA hard drive without the risk of writing data back to it, thus corrupting an investigation. Now, however, the device can draw power from the FireWire bus, eliminating the need for an AC adapter, although one is included. The ComboDock, which is made of anodized aluminum, features two daisy-chainable FireWire 800 ports. Pricing is $499.95, or $629.95 for the model that adds SATA support.
