Iomega Corp. on Monday introduced its Super DVD Writer 16×16 Dual-Format USB 2.0 Drive. The external drive features double-layer burning support, and can write up to 8.5 GB on a single double-sided writeable DVD disc. It comes with software for Mac OS X and Windows. It is shipping now at a list price of US$189.95.
Supported formats include DVD+R DL at 4x, DVD+R and and DVD+RW at 16x write, 8x rewrite and 8x read, DVD-R and DVD-RW at 16x write, 6x rewrite and 8x read, and CD-R and CD-RW at 48x write, 24x rewrite and 32x read. It can also rip audio CDs at up to 40x speed. The drive comes bundled with Charismac Discribe software. System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.2.7 or later; double-layer support requires Mac OS X v10.3.6 or higher, according to Iomega. The company’s Web site had not been updated with information about the new drive as MacCentral posted this article.
