Web Crossing Inc. on Monday announced Site Crossing, a new service based on their Web Crossing technology that provides consumers and business workgroups with turnkey Web site collaboration tools like discussion boards, mailing list, Weblog publication, chat, calendars, podcasting, polls and more. The service is available in two forms: “bolted onto” an existing Web site, or as a core Web site in itself. Hosted solutions start at US$7.95 per month.
Users can add services and features as they go along — the $7.95 fee includes three interactive elements in any combination the user desires. A “standard” subscription for $13.95 per month nets a total of six interactive elements, and a $21.95 “advanced” service includes 12. Those hosting plans also include e-mail, disk space and data transfer quotas.
Core sites built using Site Crossing include an “HTML formatting bar” that lets users get set up even if they don’t have any HTML coding skills. A point-and-click interface lets users adds new interactive tools as they’re needed. The service and features are compatible with any standards-based Web browser, according to the developers.
