Hamrick Software’s popular Mac OS X scanning software VueScan has been updated to version 8.1.36. This new version improves display responsiveness and calibration for Microtek and Umax scanners. It also fixes problems with multipage PDF files and line art PDF files, and adds a new “Input|Make gray from” option.
VueScan goes above and beyond the limited support of most software bundled with scanners by offering almost universal support: The latest release can work with more than 400 flatbed and film scanners, and also supports 142 digital camera raw file types. It optimizes color balance, can calibrate, and supports more than 100 brands of negative film. You can download and try VueScan for free; if you like it, a Standard Edition license costs US$49.95. A Professional Edition license, which adds the ability to create raw scan files, use ICC profiles and color spaces, and do IT8 color calibration, is available for $89.95.
