Sonic Solutions, parent company of Roxio, on Tuesday announced that its consumer CD and DVD burning software will include LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling technology support in future releases. LightScribe lets users create CD and DVD labels that are laser-etched. Special disc media can be used in compatible drives to draw graphics or text directly onto the top surface.
LightScribe is still early in its adoption stages by drive makers, but storage peripheral maker LaCie has already introduced a Mac-compatible external DVD burner that features this technology.
A Roxio spokesman confirmed for MacCentral that future releases of the Macintosh versions of its CD and DVD burning products will feature LightScribe support. A timeframe for those releases was not immediately available. Roxio makes Toast 6 Titanium and Popcorn.
