Netopia Inc. on Tuesday released an upgrade to Timbuktu Pro, the company’s remote control software that enables network administrators to operate or observe computers from a distance, as well as speak to users, send instant messages with attached files and folders and more. Version 8.0 enhances Timbuktu’s security by offering a standards-based, integrated Secure Shell client that encrypts and compresses data streams.
This update also integrates with Apple’s Rendezvous technology, so that Timbuktu Pro users can find each other on a network more easily, improves security by authenticating connections with the System Authenticated Users feature and includes a Push Installer that eases Timbuktu deployment to remote computers. Visit Netopia’s Web site for information on upgrade discounts; the full software is US$99.95, with volume discounts available. Mac OS X v10.3 is required, although a copy of Timbuktu Pro 7 is included with the new version to accommodate users of earlier Mac operating systems.
