Reader Serena Saw (who surely earned the nickname “See Saw” at some point in her life) writes with a couple of questions I commonly receive. Why not answer them now? She writes:
Since you have been answering Mail application questions, recently, I have another one for you. Is there a way to send email using bcc (as you can with Eudora or Entourage)? I tried to search for it in the help files but couldn’t find anything.Another questions: Can I set Safari or Netscape to be my default browser instead of Explorer?
Early versions of Apple’s Mail played hide and seek with the Bcc field, but it’s easier to invoke with recent versions of Mail. To do so, simply create a new message and choose Bcc Header from Mail’s View menu.
If you want a Bcc field to always appear, select Preferences from Mail’s Mail menu, click the Composing tab, and enable the Always Bcc Myself option. Switching this option on automatically places a Bcc field that contains your email address in each message you compose. Just substitute different addresses in this field when you want to Bcc someone.
As for making Safari or Netscape (or FireFox or OmniWeb, for that matter) your default browser, this function is controlled through Safari. Launch Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu, choose the General tab, and pick a new browser from the Default Web Browser pop-up menu. If the browser you’re after doesn’t appear in this menu, choose Select from the menu and navigate to the browser you prefer.
