When Apple releases a new iPod or updates an old one, we’re all over it. This week was no exception as, with stopwatch in hand, we reviewed the second generation of Apple’s iPod mini. Similar to the original mini, this iPod boasts more vivid color schemes and impressively improved play time. Less impressive is the lack of a bundled FireWire cable and power adapter.
Making less of a splash was the release of the 30GB version of Apple’s iPod photo (a version of the picture-perfect iPod that differs from other iPod photos only in its lack of bundled FireWire and AV cables). We’ve updated our review of the original iPod photo to include the new model.
This week, Reviews Editor Dan Frakes gave a 4-Play thumbs up to TuneWear’s $55 Prie Hook, a new tan, leather case that offers a unique, bottom-loading design for fourth-generation, photo, and mini iPods. Dan was likewise impressed with Apple’s $29 water-resistant iPod shuffle Sport Case and another case for Apple’s smallest iPod, Pacific Rim Technologies’ $11 Gel Shield, a colorful silicone skin case available in lime, sky blue, white, juicy pink, and charcoal.
