DevonTechnologies on Thursday released DevonAgent 1.6, an upgrade to its Internet research tool that adds new plug-ins for searching TidBITS, MacUpdate.com and Version Tracker, as well as a new scanner for filtering and searching pages that link to files in the BibTeX and LaTeX formats. In addition, this update offers search keywords that enable users to, for example, type “google,” followed by the query, and immediately view the results.
The developer also noted that DevonAgent 1.6 can send e-mail notifications that contain search results and supports the Boolean search operators used by Mac OS X’s Finder and Spotlight — the latter will be part of the upcoming Mac OS X v10.4 “Tiger.” It can also execute AppleScripts that can interact with search results.
This update is free for registered users; the full software is US$35, or $65 when bundled with the company’s brainstorming tool DevonThink. Mac OS X v10.2.7 or higher is required.
DevonTechnologies also announced on Thursday updates to its freeware utilities EasyFind, ThumbsUp and XMenu. EasyFind, which performs local drive searches that don’t require indexing, was upgraded to version 3.4, which now moves files rather than copy them when they’re dragged to the Finder or desktop and adds the same Boolean search support as DevonAgent 1.6. ThumbsUp, a thumbnail creation utility, adds batch processing of complete folders in version 4.1.
Finally, XMenu 1.5 now displays menu titles in bold. The utility brings the old Apple menu from Mac OS 9 to Mac OS X. It requires Mac OS X v10.3 while EasyFind and ThumbsUp require v10.2.
