Harris & Baseview on Wednesday announced that it’s now shipping iQue Server 4.0, a major upgrade to the developer’s editorial development system. The software employs a MySQL database running on a JBoss foundation, with a three-tiered structure that enables multiple servers to connect to the same database. As a result, iQue Server 4.0 can scale from a handful of seats to hundreds.
Changes to the software include Publication Profiles, which allow each publication working off the same database to have its own set of metadata, and EditionBuilder, a QuarkXPress solution that automatically creates page folios and splits multi-page documents into single files. EditionBuilder will be available soon for Adobe InDesign.
Other new layout features include Zone Document and Zone Story, both of which work with QuarkXPress and InDesign. The commands enable users to duplicate pages at any stage in the workflow when zone-specific editions or stories are required. The new Control-and-Release system locks stories so that only one user at a time can access them. Other changes are documented on the Harris & Baseview Web site.
Contact the developer for pricing information. The company’s Web site does not list system requirements.
