Volvo Cars of North America already offers connectivity for Apple’s iPod in its entire 2005 model line. Now the car maker is taking it a step further by showcasing Scandinavian musicians on the iTunes Music Store. The new effort shifts into high gear on March 23, 2005 when Volvo presents a live music event in Times Square called “nu: the sounds of new Scandinavia,” featuring performances from Nordic bands like Sahara Hotnights, The Ark and The Drowners.
“Nu,” Swedish for “Now,” features a monthly 12-song digital compilation featuring music from Scandinavian artists. Some tracks will be available for free. Volvo plans to promote the new effort by sending direct mail to Volvo owners, offering retailer promotions, iTunes gift certificate promotions and more. A new Web site has been announced for the promotion, but it is not scheduled to go online until the 23rd.
