TechRestore Inc. on Tuesday announced a new iPod hard drive upgrade program for owners of all four generations of the full-size MP3 player. First- and second-generation iPod hard drives can be upgraded from 5GB to 10GB and from 10GB to 20GB, respectively, while owners of 4G models can boost storage from 20GB to 40GB or from 40GB to 60GB.
3G iPods, which offered a variety of hard drive sizes, can be upgraded several ways: from 10GB to 20GB or 40GB; from 15GB to 20GB or 40GB; from 20GB to 40GB; or from 30GB to 40GB. Pricing for 3G upgrades starts at US$119.99 for the basic 15GB to 20GB upgrade and increases depending on the option selected — for example, taking the 10GB or 15GB version to 40GB costs $89.99 or $99.99 more, respectively.
Pricing is simpler for the other services: $119.99 and $129.99 for the first- and second-generation upgrades and $179.99 for the first 4G option, or $50 more for the second one. All prices include two-way overnight shipping, parts and installation. TechRestore does not offer hard drive upgrades for the iPod mini.
