Curious Labs Inc. on Tuesday announced that it is now shipping
Poser 6, the latest version of its 3D tool for creating realistic human figures. New features in this upgrade include a revamped user interface, OpenGL hardware acceleration, cartoon outline rendering effects, better support for Flash with user-defined export colors for the Web and more. Poser 6 also offers two new lighting tools: ambient occlusion, which creates photorealistic soft shadows, and image-based lighting, which uses a photograph or an image map to light 3D scenes and make them appear as if they’re part of a real-world environment.
Curious has also added new content to Poser 6, including poses, hair, clothing and accessories as well as new adult male and female and children figures. Users who want to add content to the software can do so with a redesigned version of Content Paradise, which is accessible through Poser or the Content Paradise or Curious Labs Web sites. Content Paradise features a wide variety of vendors and artists who offer free and nominally priced figures, textures, clothes and more.
The developer currently offers a Special Edition of Poser 6 that includes the software, the Winter Queen figure pack and Shade 7 Designer LE, a feature-limited version of Curious Labs’ 3D modeling, rendering and animation tool. You can purchase the Special Edition directly from Curious for US$269 while supplies last. After the final one is sold, Curious will offer Poser 6 on its own for $249. Upgrades for Poser 4 and 5, Poser Artist and Poser Pro Pack users start at $129.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.2, a 500MHz G3 processor (700MHz G4 recommended), 256MB RAM (512MB recommended), 500MB free hard drive space (2GB recommended), a 24-bit color display capable of 1024 x 768 resolution and an OpenGL-supported video card.
