Google Inc. has announced that it has acquired Urchin Software Corp., a Web site analytics system developer. Urchin’s software is used by Web site operators to provide data on user experience and allow the optimization of content and Web marketing, the statement said.
Google said it plans to make Urchin’s tools available to Web site owners and marketers to help them increase their advertising return on investment and make their Web sites more effective. Urchin’s technology is used by over 1 million sites worldwide. Urchin counts NBC, Procter & Gamble, NASA, AT&T and other major organizations among its customers.
