Taiwanese MP3 maker Luxpro made headlines at the CeBit trade show in Germany earlier this month when they showed off an MP3 player called the Super Shuffle that was, unmistakably, a clone of Apple’s iPod shuffle. The product briefly disappeared but it’s back now, as the Super Tangent. Luxpro appears to have made some changes to the Super Tangent since it was shown at CeBit as the Super Shuffle, but it’s still unmistakably an iPod shuffle clone.
Luxpro’s Super Tangent — shown briefly as the Super Shiner — is a rectangular flash-based MP3 player that comes in 512MB and 1GB capacities and features a USB 2.0 interface. The device features beveled edges and a cap to protect the USB connector, just like the iPod shuffle. On its face a control pad works exactly the same as the iPod shuffle, though Luxpro’s variant has some slight cosmetic embellishments to differentiate it. On the back, Luxpro shows two sliders instead of just one — the Super Tangent has an FM tuner and voice recording capabilities that are activated using those sliders. Luxpro also shows the device available in three colors — white, red and black.
Under the hood, Luxpro describes the Super Tangent as compatible with MP3, WMA and WAV audio formats, and compatible with Mac OS X v10.0 or higher and Windows 98 SE or later. It measures 25 x 86.7 x 10.2 millimeters — slightly longer and thicker than an iPod shuffle. Pricing and availability were not offered.
