Welcome to the inaugural installment of the new Game Room weblog. The Game Room has long been a fixture in the pages of Macworld magazine, and I’ve written the column for the last several years — it’s where we bring readers reviews and news from the Mac game world. Now we’re taking that idea to its next logical step by expanding the Game Room’s presence to our Web site.
I’ll update the Game Room blog regularly with new game-related content. You’ll see reviews of new games, both from major commercial publishers and boxless software creators, a bit more in-depth than I can be in the magazine. I’ll take a look at new hardware to enhance your gaming experience. You’ll also see tips for getting the most out of your favorite games along with occasional commentary and analysis about what’s happening on the Mac game front.
As part of a recent redesign on Macworld.com, we’ve revamed our subject archive pages and have set up one that I’m particularly proud of: the games subject page. It’s there that you can see all of our recent game news, my Game Room blog entries and recent reviews consolidated on one easy to read page. I heartily encourage you to check it out, and if you think it’s worth your time, please bookmark the games subject page and visit it occasionally.
The Game Room blog and the new games subject page are faster ways of getting you the reviews and news you need to make your Mac gaming buying decisions instead of having to wait for the magazine to come out. But that doesn’t mean this is the end of the print version of the Game Room column. We’ll continue to post reviews and other content there, including some exclusive stuff you won’t find online right away, like “First Looks” of new games still in development.
If you have questions, thoughts or comments that you’d like to share with other readers, I also encourage you to visit our Game Room discussion forum, where you can talk about any Macintosh game topic that crosses your mind, whether you’re looking for hints, need suggestions about what games or hardware to get, or have technical questions that you can’t get answered — we’re here to help and to have fun. And if you have questions for me specifically, I’m always available by e-mail.
