Silhouette FX LLC has released a standalone version of Silhouette Roto, a software application available for Mac OS X, Windows and Linux operating systems. The software is designed to help users with rotoscoping, the manual extraction of a portion of an image — commonly done by video professionals. This standalone application complements an Adobe After Effects and Apple Final Cut Pro plug-in already released.
The standalone application adds new features like motion stabilization (which has also been added to the plug-in version) and High Dynamic Range (HDR) file format support. Rotoshape (SSF) export to Apple Shake is also new. Silhouette Roto also features shape import and export compatibility with Elastic Reality, Commotion and Discreet combustion and flame. The standalone application costs US$495; the plug-in costs $395. Both can be purchased together for $595. System requirements include a G4/867MHz or faster, Mac OS X, 512MB RAM, 1GB hard disk space, 1024 x 768 resolution and three button mouse.
