The Mac OS X version of BitTorrent v4.0.1 is ready for download. Improvements include the incorporation of the latest BitTorrent engine, the ability to click and drag torrents into different queuing order, a revised user interface, customizable toolbar and more. System requirements have not been determined, but the author suspects the software requires Mac OS X v10.3, and confirms that it does not work yet with Mac OS X v10.4 “Tiger.”
If you’re unfamiliar with BitTorrent, Macworld’s Jason Snell described it thus:
“BitTorrent works by making a server out of everyone who’s downloading a file. The end result is that people who are distributing files don’t get crushed under massive server loads or high bandwidth charges from their service providers, and users get relatively speedy downloads because they’re transferring data from several of their fellow users simultaneously.”
