Corel Corp. introduced on Monday the Corel Painter IX Art Pen Brush Pack, a collection of new brushes designed to work and take advantage of the Wacom 6D Art Pen. Corel and Wacom worked together on the new brushes, which will respond to the “barrel rotation” capability in the 6D Art Pen. The brushes are available as a free download from Corel.
“We’ve had a relationship for many years and we challenge each other,” Mark Mehall, senior product manager for Wacom, told MacCentral. “The 6D Art Pen is the first time we’ve been able to add a ‘twist’ like this.”
The brushes not only respond to the x- and y-axes, tilt, bearing and pressure sensitivity, but also add the extra dimension of barrel rotation. This, says Wacom, makes the digital painting experience more natural than ever before.
“With the ability to ‘twist,’ we can give artists a whole new sense of realism,” said Mehall.
The Art Brush Pen Pack includes the Thin Smooth Calligraphy Brush, Grainy Calligraphy Brush, Soft Flat Oils Brush, Square Grainy Pastel Brush and a Tapered Gouache Brush.
“Artists moving to the digital world want to be able to replicate their painting — now they can,” said Sean Young, Product Manager for Corel Painter IX.
