LaCie has introduced a larger version of its Bigger Disk Extreme, an external hard disk for Macs and PCs that touts FireWire 800 connectivity. The Bigger Disk Extreme is now available in a 2 terabyte (TB) capacity. The new drive is coming this spring for US$2,299.
The Bigger Disk Extreme features multiple hard disk drive mechanisms arrayed together using built-in RAID 0 support. The device is made using an aluminum chassis and a “smart fan” system that dissipates heat. A drive stand lets you set it upright, and it can be rack-mounted using optional hardware. Included with the 2TB Bigger Disk Extreme are FireWire 800 and FireWire 400 cables, an iLink/DV cable, SilverKeeper utility software and Silverlining backup and drive management software.
