Sorenson Media on Monday announced the release of Sorenson Squeeze v4.1, the latest update to its video encoding and compression software for Mac OS X. The new version adds the ability to set destinations for compressed video files, introduces support for aacPlus audio and interoperates with optional Windows Media 9 encoding components.
The new destination feature helps integrate Squeeze in a video workflow by letting users optionally set one or more destinations for the final video file — chapter markers for DVD production using Apple’s DVD Studio Pro, for example, or transport streams for HDV and DVHS. Users can specify their own destinations, including other networked computers or FTP sites.
Also new in this release is integrated support for aacPlus audio and aacPlus audio presets. The aacPlus compression scheme is based on MPEG-4 and combines Advanced Audio Codec (AAC), Spectral Band Replication (SBR) and Parametric Stereo (PS); the technology is favored by some Internet broadcasters.
Squeeze 4.1 also adds support for Telestream’s Flip4Mac’s WMV Components, a cross-platform Windows Media 9 encoding tool that runs on the Macintosh.
Sorenson Squeeze 4.1 is a free update for current users. The full compression suite package costs US$449. Flip4Mac WMV Components for Mac start at $99.
