Web analytics company OneStat.com reported Tuesday that Mozilla’s Web browsers, including Firefox, comprise 8.69 percent of the global market for Web browsers. Microsoft’s Internet Explorer dominates with 86.63 percent of the market, but Apple’s own Safari Web browser is in third, with 1.26 percent. Netscape makes up about 1.08 percent of the global market, according to OneStat.com, with Opera trailing the pack with about 1.03 percent.
OneStat.com reports that Mozilla browser use has increased 0.24 percent since February, while Microsoft’s Internet Explorer usage has dropped 0.65 percent in the same time . By comparison, Apple Safari usage has increased 0.05 percent over the same period.
“It seems that the rapidly growth of the global usage share of Mozilla’s Firefox is slowing down at the moment,” said Niels Brinkman, co-founder of OneStat.com. Last November, the company reported Mozilla’s global usage was 7.35 percent. “It looks like that browser users of Internet Explorer for Apple’s Mac are switching to Safari because the global usage share is still growing.”
OneStat.com’s Web analytics technology is used on more than 50,000 Web sites in 100 countries. The company derives its estimates by a sample of 2 million visitors divided into 20,000 visitors of 100 countries each day.
