on Wednesday announced new feature support for Mac OS X v10.4 “Tiger” in both its Torque Game Engine and Torque 2D engine. Both engines gain 64-bit support and Xcode 2.0 optimizations, and both will include support for other Tiger features like Automator and .Mac sync. GarageGames said it plans to release the new versions of its Torque technology in the next calendar quarter.
Torque Game Engine is the 3D gaming engine GarageGames licenses to independent developers for as little as US$100. It is a cross-platform technology that’s been used to develop GarageGames-published titles including Marble Blast, Orbz, ThinkTanks, and most recently, Dark Horizons Lore: Invasion. Torque 2D is a new engine currently available as an “early adopter release” that lets licensees create 2D games — everything from side-scrolling action titles to strategy games and more.
