Reader Joe Forbes would like to prevent the kind of wrinkles that adorn a forehead after hours of squinting at very tiny text on a PowerBook screen. He writes:
When I download PDF files in Preview the fonts are too small for me to read easily on my PowerBook with a resolution of 1280 x 854. I have been clicking the Zoom In button and then the green + button to increase the font size and window size. The font size is okay in other applications, so I do not want to change my monitor’s resolution. Is there any way to get Preview to automatically open PDF files with larger fonts?
Sure. Just select Preferences from the Preview menu, click the PDF tab, and enter a higher value in the Use Scale Of field—175%, for example. Now when you open PDF files they’ll be scaled higher and be easier to read.
Those who use Adobe’s Acrobat Reader to view PDF files can do the same sort of thing by choosing Preferences from the Acrobat Reader menu, clicking Display in the resulting Preferences window, and choosing a new value from the Default Zoom pop-up menu.
