Insider Software on Thursday announced the release of FontAgent Pro v3.0.1, the latest version of their Mac OS X utility to manage fonts, diagnose font problems, optimize them and repair them. Among the improvements is support for Bonjour, the networking technology Apple previously called Rendezvous. Insider also offered some preliminary news about FontAgent Pro and Mac OS X v10.4 “Tiger.”
Other enhancements in this release include improved verification of font integrity prior to activation, a refined startup set activation, improved performance of Font Compare, simplified options for importing fonts, better searching of font comment details, improved handling of fonts with corrup rersources and more.
Bonjour is Apple’s term for zero configuration networking, a feature that’s been in Mac OS X since v10.2. Bonjour-compliant software and networking devices can automatically locate network services and configure themselves accordingly. Apple changed the name from Rendezvous to Bonjour following the settlement of a lawsuit filed by TIBCO Software, which first laid claim to the name for their own software in the mid-90s.
FontAgent Pro 3.0.1 is a free update to all registered users. FontAgent Pro 3 starts at US$99.99 and requires Mac OS X v10.2 or later. Insider Software notes that FontAgent Pro has successfully been tested with Mac OS X v10.4 and expects to certify 100 percent compatibility shortly after Tiger’s public release on April 29th.
