TidBits Electronic Publishing, which produces the popular TidBits online newsletter, released a spate of Tiger-related electronic books Friday to coincide with Apple’s release of OS X 10.4. All four books, part of TidBits’ Take Control ebook series, are available for download immediately.
Take Control publisher Adam C. Engst says the ebooks will help Mac users upgrade to Tiger successfully, customize the new operating system, work with user accounts, and share files among multiple networked computers.
“Our approach to ebooks shines in situations like this,” said Engst, a contributing editor to Macworld . “Whereas most print books about Tiger won’t be hitting the shelves for weeks or even months, we have four titles available as soon as Tiger ships.”
The four new Take Control ebooks are:
• Take Control of Upgrading to Tiger ($5), an update of author Joe Kissell’s OS X installation guide;
• Take Control of Customizing Tiger ($5), in which author Matt Neuburg shows readers how to customize Spotlight, Smart Folders, Dashboard, Automator, and other features;
• Take Control of Users & Accounts in Tiger ($5), featuring advice on managing user accounts in OS X and tips on Tiger’s new parental controls from author Kirk McElhearn; and
• Take Control of Sharing Files in Tiger ($10), which covers networking tips from author Glenn Fleishman.
Take Control readers receive free updates whenever TidBits puts out updated versions of its ebooks. An excerpt from Take Control of Upgrading to Tiger is available at Macworld.com.
