WiebeTech LLC on Monday announced that it’s shipping SATADock. The device connects Serial ATA (SATA) hard disk drive mechanisms through the FireWire 800 interface available on some Power Mac G5 and PowerBook G4 models. It’s also downwardly compatible with the FireWire 400 interface found on other Macs.
SATADock allows any 2.5 or 3.5-inch SATA drive to connect to any FireWire host computer. The device is built inside an aluminum enclosure and features a Serial ATA power and data connector and host-side FireWire ports. It has a power switch, power indicator and access indicator, and WiebeTech includes bottom plates to attach to hard drives. The SATADock starts at US$229.95. A bus-powered version is available for $299.95, and the forensic version with write-block firmware installed costs $449.95.
