Ranchero Software on Thursday announced the release of NetNewsWire 2.0, a new version of its RSS and Atom newsreader for Mac OS X. A freeware version, NetNewsWire Lite 2.0, is also available. A free upgrade for version 1.x registered users, NetNewsWire 2.0 costs US$24.95 to register.
New to this release is a tabbed browser that lets you view pages while staying in the same window; the ability to search news items with a standard Apple search widget, the ability to download podcasts and enclosures (it also sends podcasts to iTunes with your choice of genre and playlist); a flagged items feature that lets you mark items you want to keep; syncing between multiple computers; smart lists; search subscriptions and built-in styles.
NetNewsWire 2.0 has been “streamlined,” according to Ranchero Software, to remove the Weblog editing capabilities present in NetNewsWire 1.x. Instead, Ranchero has broken out those capabilities to a separate application called MarsEdit (it costs $24.95 n its own, but registered NetNewsWire 1.x users get it for free).
What’s more, the new release is fully Tiger-compatible, according to Ranchero Software. It also includes Automator actions.
