Virtual Programming Ltd. on Tuesday announced the release of X2: The Threat, an action adventure game set in outer space. The game is available for purchase and download from Virtual Programming’s Web site; it’ll also be available on CD-ROM in stores beginning June 17, 2005.
In X2: The Threat, you assume the role of a space captain as you go on dozens of interlinked missions. You can command a freighter and become a great merchant captain, amassing wealth and influence across the stars; or you can become admiral of a massive fleet of warships bent on destruction. It’s up to you and how you want to play.
X2: The Threat features more than 70 different ships to command — everything from single-seat fighters to kilometers-long destroyers. The game touts a 3D graphics engine that uses advanced OpenGL graphics capabilities like bump-mapping and volumetric shading. System requirements call for a G4 1.25GHz or faster system, 256MB RAM, 2GB hard disk space, and ATI Radeon 7000 or Nvidia GeForce3 or better 3D graphics.
X2: The Threat costs £29.95 ($54.45). Freeverse will distribute the game throughout North American retailers for US$39.95.
