It’s still a long way off, but fans of WarBirds should be pleased to learn that iEntertainment Network Inc. will release “The Mighty Eighth — a WarBirds Series Combat Simulation.” The game is coming to retail stores in March, 2007, according to the developer. The game will be released simultaneously on both PCs and Macs, and the developer said they’re also considering bringing the game to new consoles that feature networked play.
A continuation of the long-running WarBirds series, the all-new game puts players in the cockpits of World War II-era combat aircraft as they dogfight over the skies of Europe. The game features a brand new modeling of the entire European continent, complete with elevations and geographical features derived from real satellite data.
New communication abilities will allow players to interact with each other in a massively multiplayer environment, as well as with computer-controlled vehicles. “The Mighty Eighth” also features new detailed vehicle models, new atmospheric, weather, lighting and storm special effects, and the “Total Immersion” game system, which lets players affect the outcome of all major battles.
Player Aviators attempt to accomplish missions and survive the outcome as they fight for the countries. And in addition to massively multiplayer online play, gamers will be able to go solo as well.
iEntertainment Network Inc. recently released WarBirds 2005, the latest iteration of the long-running online combat flight sim game. WarBirds is available for download for Mac or PC and costs US$13.95 per month to play. More information, download links and account information about WarBirds 2005 is available online.
